YOUR NOTES

As soon as possible, after receiving a helmet ticket, you should jot down all the information about the stop. You will keep this to yourself, and might also use it to let us know about your ticket.

Try to remember things such as where the Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) was when you first noticed him or her. Did LEO have a clear view or an obstructed view of you and your helmet? Did LEO follow at a tailgating distance or did LEO stay back so far that you suspect they might not have been able to make out whether you had a DOT sticker on your helmet? How did LEO signal you to pull over? Was the location safe for you to pull alongside the road or did you go to the closest parking lot? When LEO  approached what questions did they ask? What did the converstation go like? Did LEO tell you that you were pulled over for a non-compliant helmet or did LEO say your helmet is not approved or not DOT approved? Did LEO ask you to remove your helmet? Did LEO inspect your helmet?

Continue to jot down everything while it is still fresh in your mind.
